February 1998 - Hoot -N- Holler Bridge
Hoot -n- Holler Bridge
Just a "Hoot -n- Holler" from headquarters south of Vernon is a bridge that crosses Beaver Creek which has a population of beaver. The bridge could have got the nickname from Cowboys of past making enough noise to be heard all the way back at headquarters. Beside the bridge is a old irrigation pump, a stand pipe along with a weir dam that we used to irrigate the "bottom" land. At one time we grew great corn there. Wildlife is heavy in the area with deer, javalina, turkey, beaver, badgers, coons, squirrels, coyotes, bobcats, skunks, armadillos, and a multitude of birds. The water is always red and will stain a white tee-shirt permanently.
